01. Dar a volta por cima – to bounce back

Ele está triste porque a Sally o deixou, mas ele vai dar a volta por cima.

He’s sad about Sally leaving him, but he’ll bounce back.

Depois de uma derrota no começo, ela deu a volta por cima para ganhar o campeonato.

After an early defeat, she bounced back to win the championship.

02. Dar água na boca – to make one’s mouth water

O cheiro do frango frito me deu água na boca.

The smell of friend chicken made my mouth water.

Essa nova sobremesa vai te dar água na boca.

That new dessert is going to make your mouth water.

03. Dar alta (a paciente em hospital) – to discharge a patient from the hospital

Quando ele chegou no hospital, o Jack já tinha sido tido alta.

When he arrived at the hospital, Jack had already been discharged.

“Você já deu alto para aquele paciente?” o médico perguntou ao seu colega.

“Did you discharge that patient yet?”, the doctor asked his colleague.

04. Dar aviso prévio – to give notice

Eles nos deram um mês de aviso prévio antes de nos despedirem.

07. Dar descarga – to flush

Lembre-se de dar descarga depois de usar o banheiro.

08. Dar duro – to work hard

Eles deram duro para mandar seus filhos para a faculdade.
